About Us

Our Mission

We are committed to humanizing the system of medical and psychological care for people in detention.

We unite people to advance justice, uphold human dignity, promote equality before the law, and safeguard human rights and freedoms for all.

Our Vision

We are a community of experts specializing in penitentiary medicine and psychology. Our goal is to drive reforms that ensure transparency, strengthen civic oversight, and guarantee the right to health for people in prison in Belarus.

Our Value Proposition

Through research in penitentiary medicine and psychology, we provide fact-based analysis to experts, human rights advocates, journalists, and decision-makers. Our work helps raise public awareness and inform meaningful reforms.

Documentation Activities

The organization systematically documents the situation regarding the right to medical and psychological care in Belarusian prisons. This work has been ongoing since 2021.

Collection of individual testimonies

Interviews with former prisoners, their families, and healthcare workers.

Detailed documentation of violations of prisoners’ right to health, in particular:

denials of medical care;

delays in providing medical care;

lack of access to essential medications;

violations in the provision of psychiatric and psychological care;

torture, cruel and inhumane treatment, and isolation.

Particular attention is given to at-risk groups: women, children, the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and people with disabilities.

Analytical Research and Thematic Reports

Conducting expert research, preparing and publishing thematic reports based on this research (e.g., on pretrial detention facilities, prison medicine, and women in prison).

Research includes:

legal analysis;

statistics;

international standards (International Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, CPT, WHO).

Used in international advocacy and reform planning.

Psychological diaries and testimonies

Documentation of subjective experiences, including through:

first-person accounts;

dreams, drawings, letters;

post-traumatic symptoms.

Used in research projects and to formulate recommendations for specialists working with victims.

Documentation objectives:

Recording violations of the right to health for the sake of history and justice.

Supporting fact-based and evidence-based pressure on the regime.

Helping victims be heard and obtain legal protection – now and after the establishment of democracy and the rule of law in Belarus.

Preparing the basis for reforming penitentiary medicine and psychology after the establishment of democracy and the rule of law in Belarus.
